Your privacy and your data: how Nella handles your conversations

You share real things with an AI assistant: drafts, questions about your health or your money, work documents. You deserve to know exactly what happens to them. Here’s how Nella handles your data, in plain language. Our Privacy Policy remains the reference.

We don’t train AI models on your conversations

It’s our clearest commitment. We don’t use your conversations to train AI models, and we only work with providers that are contractually bound not to use them for that purpose either.

What we keep, and why

• Your account: your name, your email address, the preferences you set (profile, language, theme) and, if you use one, a hashed password.
• Your conversations and Creations: so you can find them on all your devices. They’re kept as long as your account is active, unless you delete them.
• Usage information: how much you use Nella, to apply your plan’s limits.

Guest mode is lighter still: conversations stay on your device, and a guest account that has been inactive for 30 days is deleted automatically, together with its conversations.

Who processes your data

To generate answers, your messages are sent to the provider of the AI models we use. Like our other service providers (hosting, email delivery), it’s bound by a contract that requires it to protect your information and to use it only on our behalf. Some providers may process data outside Canada, notably in the United States.

How your data is protected

Connections are encrypted (HTTPS), passwords are hashed, sign-in codes can be used only once and expire quickly, and access is limited to the people who need it. Creations run in an isolated frame that can’t read your session or your conversations.

You stay in control

Everything is in Settings:

• Delete a conversation from its menu in the sidebar, at any time.
• Delete all conversations in Settings › Data. Your account stays open.
• Export my data in Settings › Data: a ZIP archive containing all your conversations (in JSON and Markdown) and your Creations.
• Delete account in Settings › Account: your account, conversations, Creations and preferences are permanently erased.

Deletion takes effect immediately in the service.

Your rights

Our policy is written to comply with Quebec’s Law 25, Canada’s PIPEDA and the European GDPR. You can access, correct, export or delete your personal information. For a request that isn’t available in Settings, write to us through the contact page: we’ll verify your identity and reply in writing within 30 days.

Good habits on your side

• Don’t paste passwords, full card numbers or identity documents into a conversation; Nella never needs them.
• On a shared computer, sign out when you’re done. If you’ve signed in somewhere you no longer control, use Log out of all other devices in Settings › Account.
• Keep in mind that Nella is reserved for people aged 18 and over.
